Hailsham nail bar fire man jailed for 22 years
A man is facing 22 years in prison after being found guilty of trying to kill his wife and son by setting fire to their nail bar business in Hailsham last year.
Ducbac Vuong, 52, known as Sammi, was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder at Hollywood Nails in High Street, Hailsham, on 4 March last year.
A jury at Lewes Crown Court heard that emergency services were called to the business at 5.17pm to reports of a fire and a man, woman and baby suffering severe burns. The fire had damaged the nail bar itself, the staff area and the upstairs flat.
On Monday January, 18 he was found guilty of two charges of attempted murder. Today he reappeared at Lewes Crown Court for sentencing.
Detective Sergeant Dave Tye, who led the investigation, said: "Vuong has claimed to be the hero in suffering burns while putting the fire out but it was clear to us that he had set fire to the nail bar in an attempt to kill those inside at the time. He will now spend 22 years behind bars for his actions that day, but his victims will have to live with their injuries, both physical and mental for the rest of their lives."

In total more than 60 firefighters have been tackling the blaze including appliances from Bognor, Chichester, Midhurst, Petworth, Littlehampton, Worthing, Selsey, Storrington, Havant, East Wittering and Steyning as well as a support appliance from Shoreham.
The fire in the thatch is very deep seated and crews have been working throughout the night and this morning to extinguish it and remove the affected areas. Attending crews have also undertaken a considerable salvage operation to save as many of the occupiers possessions as possible.
Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service was requested and their volunteers provided advice and assistance to the occupiers as well as refreshments to the fire crews working at the scene.

Woman goes to prison for stealing £150,000 from employer
A Brighton office administrator has been sentenced to three years imprisonment after she admitted stealing more than £150,000 from her employer over more than four years.
Suzanne Lili May, 39, of Willingdon Road, Brighton, was sentenced when she appeared at Lewes Crown Court today having pleaded guilty at a hearing in February to dishonestly making hundreds of payments into her own bank account, and to her Paypal account, and using company credit cards, while working for Brighton-based eco-engineering firm Aerotrope Ltd, and to falsifying the company's accounts.
Her crimes came to notice in the summer of 2015 when she was on holiday. The company owner, Christopher Hornzee-Jones, by chance found a letter from Companies House giving notice of Overdue Accounts saying they had not returned their annual accounts for the previous two years. Had Mr Hornzee-Jones not found this letter, proceedings would have begun against him to completely dissolve the company he has built. One of May's tasks had been to ensure the accounts were submitted, but she had not done so, enabling her to mask the amounts she was systematically stealing, to fund her own lifestyle. Instead, she made regular overpayments to her salary, transferred money to her personal bank accounts, and used company credit cards, to a total amount of £151,193.

RNLI Hayling Lifeboat RNLI LIFEBOAT
Time: 07.15am
Incident: Catamaran adrift off Hayling
The Atlantic 85 was launched in response to a UK Coastguard request to investigate a partially sunken catamaran 1 mile east of the Nab Tower. A passing fishing boat had reported it there. The lifeboat found the vessel, a blue and white hulled catamaran, with one hull under the water and the other partially submerged. A thorough search of the area found no crew, but a report from a passing boat was that a similar catamaran had been seen being towed out of Chichester Harbour the previous day. The UK Coastguard issued a PAN PAN call to try and contact the towing vessel but with no response.
The lifeboat crew considered trying to right the casualty but felt that might cause her to sink and on checking the track she was making decided that there was no danger to shipping, so with no obvious lives at risk the craft was abandoned. The Coastguard was advised of her position and the lifeboat returned to base.

Disqualified driver jailed following police pursuit in Horsham
A disqualified driver who reached speeds in excess of 90mph during a police pursuit has been jailed.
Robert Freeman was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment following his actions in Crawley and Horsham on the afternoon of Friday 18 March.
The 27-year-old carpenter, of Shottermill, Horsham, was also disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay a £140 victim surcharge at Lewes Crown Court, after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
At 11.55am on 18 March, police became aware of an Audi Q7 after it triggered an ANPR camera in Crawley.
It later triggered another camera in the town and was seen to travel towards Horsham.
Officers from the Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit identified the vehicle prior to the Robin Hood Roundabout on the A24 southbound, and it was followed onto the A264 towards Five Oaks.
Shortly afterwards, the vehicle failed to stop when signalled to do so by police and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, the vehicle was driven at high speeds and in a dangerous manner in a narrow country road, before officers lost sight of it. The vehicle was later found parked at the rear of a farm in West Chiltington Lane, near Coolham, at about 1pm, where Freeman was arrested and taken into custody.
