Police launch investigation after motorcyclist crashes
Police have been searching for a motorcyclist seen speeding and riding dangerously across Sussex.
The suspect was witnessed travelling at high speeds in numerous locations, including through built-up parts of Worthing and Brighton, for more than two hours. He was initially spotted by police riding in excess of 100mph on the A24 southbound between Broadbridge Heath and Findon at about 2.37pm.
A NPAS police helicopter was deployed to monitor the motorcyclist. After circling the area, he crashed in Offington Drive, Worthing, at the junction of the A27 at about 3.40pm. He then continued without his helmet in the direction of Durrington, before he returned to the A27 and travelled towards Shoreham.
A second helicopter was then sent to replace the previous one when in the Hove area. The suspect was traced riding along Dyke Road Avenue, into Brighton city centre and down to Brighton Pier, before heading west to Portslade. He then travelled along Western Road through Hove, and circled Brighton again before he crashed for a second time at the barriers to the Churchill Square car park at about 4.54pm. From here, he is believed to have entered the shopping centre on foot, where he discarded a leather jacket, and exited out into the town centre.
Inspector Dave Frey said: "The suspect was riding with total disregard of his own safety and those of others - at excessive speeds, through red lights, manoeuvring around bollards onto the wrong side of the road, and onto pavements in town centres. He pretty much contravened every road traffic law".
The motorcycle, helmet and leather jacket have been recovered, and these will be forensically examined.

Family tribute to Chichester murder victim
The family of Luke Jeffrey, who died after he was stabbed in Chichester on Friday 11 March, have issued a tribute and a photograph. They said: "Luke was a kind, caring and gentle young man. He was passionate about fitness and health and was studying at college to become a fitness instructor. Luke also had a lifelong love of music. He had his whole life ahead of him. He was utterly devoted to his five-year-old sister and she has lost not only her big brother, but also her best friend. He leaves behind loving parents, grandparents, a great-grandmother and many close friends. Luke was just 18-years-old when he was murdered in a brutal, senseless and cowardly attack. We cannot find the words to describe the loss and absolute grief that we are feeling.
Samuel Morgan, 19, unemployed, of Adelaide Road, Chichester, appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Monday 14 March charged with Luke's murder. He was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court, 15 March.

West Dean sheep deaths narrowed down to a few hours
Police investigating the deaths of 116 sheep at West Dean, near Chichester, have narrowed down the time of the incident to a few hours on Monday, 7 March. Sergeant Tom Carter said: "I am extremely grateful to people who have called in with information and suggestions about this horrific event. As a result, we now know that the sheep were alive around 10am on Monday, only three to four hours before they were found dead. We have ruled out the cause being a low-flying helicopter and while we have considered a suggestion that sheep rustlers may have been involved, we have had no other reports of rustling in Sussex and given the new timeframe, this makes it extremely unlikely. With Easter just around the corner, more people will be getting out into the countryside with their dogs and we would urge them again to keep their dogs on leads while they are walking in rural areas and around livestock. Even the most docile of pets can quickly turn into a killer given the opportunity."
Police continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to call 101 quoting serial 862 of 07/03 or email sussex.pnn.police.uk

FIRE & RESCUE report PR 11956
Time: 1:41am
Location: Albert Road, Bognor
Incident: FIRE
Man rescued from fire in Bognor flat in early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to the three-storey block of flats at 1.41am this morning after the occupier of the ground floor flat, a man in his 40s, fell asleep leaving cooking on the hob.
Fortunately, the flat was fitted with smoke detectors, which woke the occupier of a neighbouring flat who raised the alarm.
A crew from Bognor Fire Station was on the scene within minutes of the 999 call being made with additional fire engines from Bognor and Littlehampton arriving shortly afterwards.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the smoke-logged flat and discovered the occupier asleep in the living room. They immediately brought him out to fresh air and extinguished the fire. The occupier was given a precautionary check by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment.
Incident Commander from Bognor Fire Station, Russell Moore, said afterwards: "This man had an extremely lucky escape. Had it not been for his neighbour's decisive action this would have had a much more serious outcome. We would always urge people to act if they hear a smoke alarm going off for any length of time in a neighbouring property. Don't ignore it, call 999, you may just save a life. Smoke alarms save lives. It's really that simple."

Missing Fatima's family make a desperate plea for information
The family of a missing woman, who has been missing for more than a month, are desperate for information.
Fatima Mohamed-Ali, 52, from Newhaven left her Park Drive Close home on Friday 12 February leaving her handbag and other personal items at home. There was a sighting of her at 8am in Avis Road but has not been seen since.
Police have CCTV of Fatima at Denton Corner at this time, heading in the general direction of Newhaven Town Centre, but this is her last known movements.
Her husband Mohamed Mohamed-Ali has made a plea for information about his wife to get in touch.
He said: "My life is on hold while I wait to hear any news. She has never missed my birthday and we've been married for 36 years, this is completely out of character for her. I would like people to think and see if they can remember seeing her, it's a busy road. I really want information about where she's gone."
Chief Inspector Rob Leet, district policing commander, said- "Fatima has now been missing for more than a month and we are very concerned for her. She has never gone missing before and she left home without a bag, money, keys or it seems, any other personal items. We have conducted extensive enquiries including area searches, viewed many hours of CCTV footage and investigated all the transport options she may have chosen to use. This is completely out of character for Fatima who is Indian, 5' 2", of slim build with shoulder-length black hair worn in a ponytail. She is likely to be wearing traditional Indian dress under the beige coat."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police on 101 quoting Operation Accelerate. If you see her, dial 999 immediately.
Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

RNLI Littlehampton Lifeboat RNLI LIFEBOAT
Time: 5pm
Incident: Yacht aground on Bognor Rocks
The Littlehampton lifeboat crew was paged shortly after 5pm and launched D-769 Ray of Hope just before low water on a spring tide, which means that there was almost no depth on the bar at the harbour entrance.
The casualty was having its own low water problems, having gone aground on Bognor Rocks. The single-handed sailor of the 28ft yacht transmitted a Mayday, anticipating the genuine risk that his vessel could be holed and may then sink.
The lifeboat made its way through the rocks, and when there was sufficient depth on the rising tide, the lifeboat started to tow the yacht out of the rocks and towards Littlehampton.

UPDATE
A man who died in a collision near Littlehampton on Good Friday, has been named as Michael Smith, 64, of Warningcamp near Arundel.
At 7.15pm on Good Friday 25 March, emergency services were called to Mr Smith, who was laying in the carriageway on the A284 Lyminster Road, Wick, near Littlehampton, having been in collision with a vehicle near the Six Bells public house. He had sustained serious injuries and tragically died before reaching hospital.
A Kia Picanto being driven south by a 75-year-old man from Littlehampton, stopped at the scene.
The road was closed from the Crossbush roundabout to the Wick roundabout for several hours while emergency services, including air ambulance paramedics, were at the scene.
At around 5.45pm on the same day it had been reported to police that a man, later confirmed as being Michael Smith, was on the side of the same road, having stumbled into a fence near the scene of the eventual collision. With units heavily committed elsewhere at around the same time it was graded for a prompt rather than emergency response. Sadly officers were unable to reach the scene before the fatal collision occurred.
As a result of this, the incident is being referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission by Sussex Police for assessment.
Anyone who saw what happened or who may have other information is asked to phone 101, quoting Operation Greenleaf

Emergency services warn of severe weather for Sussex
Sussex Police, local authorities and other emergency services, remind local people and intending travellers to expect severe weather overnight and into Monday morning, 27 to 28 March.
Very strong southerly winds will affect the county from the early hours of Monday, eventually veering westerly before clearing by late morning. Gusts of up 60 to 70 mph are likely at times, particularly along the coast, but these may be felt inland too at certain times during the early morning.
Be prepared for disruption to outdoor activity and travel, as well as the likelihood of fallen trees and temporary interruptions to power supplies. The best advice is to avoid unnecessary travel and try to secure any easily damaged or dislodged items around your home.
