Concern for woman and her baby son, missing from Uckfield
Concern is growing for a 29-year-old woman and her 18-month old son who have not been seen since they left their address in Uckfield on New Years Eve.
Ileana Tomoiaga and her son Daniel left their home in Furnace Way at 2.30pm on Thursday 31 December. Ileana said she was going to the nearby Tesco Express to buy a bottle of wine and a phone charger, although there is currently no evidence that she went there or to any other shops.
Her family reported them missing on New Years Day, after making enquiries locally and with friends and relatives.
Ileana previously lived in Willesden, North West London, so may have gone there and local officers are in contact with Metropolitan Police, messages have also left on her facebook account.

Ileana Tomoiaga
She is described as white, 5' 5", slim with long red straight hair and a pale skin and was wearing a black leather jacket, black trousers and brown boots. She speaks English, with a Romanian accent.
Shannon Marchesani of the East Sussex Missing Persons team said; "The evidence at present shows that Ileana left home completely of her own accord and there are still no suspicious circumstances. However she did not leave with anything to prepare either of them for even a short stay away, and nothing has been heard since. We are naturally increasingly concerned for their welfare, and at the very least we ask Ileana to contact us so that we can confirm that she and her son are safe."
Anyone who has seen them, or knows where they are, is asked to call 101 quoting serial 1592 of 01/01 or email sussex.pnn.police.uk

Historic heirlooms, including a diamond tiara, diamond necklaces and several high-value watches, worth nearly £700,000 were stolen during the early hours of Wednesday.
The historic items, with huge sentimental value, include an 1820 diamond tiara, worth in the region of £400,000; an antique diamond necklace from the first half of the 19th century, worth in the region of £200,000; and an emerald intaglio and diamond ring from 1800, engraved with Duchess's coronet and monogram CL for Louise de Keroualle, mistress of Charles II. More than 40 items were stolen including emerald, diamond and sapphire rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces as well as antique Rolex and Girard Perregaux watches.
Detective Inspector Till Sanderson said- "The theft of these beautiful and treasured items have left the victims Lord and Lady March devastated at their loss. An intruder broke into the house sometime after midnight on Wednesday 13 January and took thousands of pounds worth of jewels and watches, many of which are irreplaceable. Forensic teams are working with detectives to investigate the circumstances and we are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity during that night up until 7am or in the previous days to contact us."
A 26-year-old man from Hampshire has been arrested in relation to this incident and is currently in custody.

Further appeal after Goodwood House robbery
Detectives are continuing their appeal for information after jewellery was stolen from Goodwood House, near Chichester, during a robbery.
A large amount of jewellery, including historic heirlooms worth more than £700,000, were taken during the break-in at around 4.30am on Wednesday (January 13).
Detective Inspector Till Sanderson said: "This was a frightening ordeal and I pay tribute to the courage of Lord and Lady March. The intruder broke in after scaling a ladder to an upstairs window, and his activity disturbed Lady March, who went to investigate. She disturbed the man, who was alone, and he pushed her and struck Lord March on the head, causing an injury to his ear. Lady March was then forced to open a safe and the man helped himself to jewellery. The couple were bound before the robber escaped with the items."
The police were called by a member of staff at around 6.30am when he arrived at work.
A 26-year-old man from Hampshire has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has now been bailed until February while investigations continue.

Incident: Police officers rescue woman in sea
Two Worthing police officers and a firearms officer braved freezing conditions to save a woman from the sea.
They were called to Madeira Avenue at around 4pm following reports of a 20-year-old woman spotted in the water.
The officers arrived on the scene and despite the coastguard being notified, chose to enter the water for fear the woman could be swept further out by strong tides.
PC Duncan Slaney said- "When we got there I could see that her head was going under the water and knew something had to be done. We couldn't reach her initially, but luckily she got close enough to the shore for us to be able to get a lifeline to her and then get her out of the water."
PC Robert Annett added- "The water was absolutely freezing but she had been in the water for almost 10 minutes by the time we got there. We had to do something to help."
Inspector John Merrick said- "It is apparent that the selfless and swift actions of the officers saved the woman from being swept out to sea or being completely overcome by the cold. The actions of all 3 officers are commendable."

Man jailed following double fatal collision
A man has been sentenced to six years in prison after the car he was driving crashed and killed two of his friends.
Kyle Witney, 21, of Finches Lane in Lindfield, pleaded guilty to two charges of causing death by dangerous driving and was sentenced at Hove Crown Court, 15 January 2016.
He was driving a BMW at 10pm on 17 December 2014, when the car left the road and collided with a tree, and landed on its roof in High Beeches Lane near Handcross.
Matthew Preece, 21, from Lindfield, and Marc Martin, 22, from Haywards Heath, both died in hospital from their injuries.
Witney was arrested five days after the incident on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He was out with his friends Matthew and Marc, and another friend, on the evening of 17 December and was driving between 80 and 100mph on High Beeches Lane, a 60mph limit road.
Kyle Witney
Sergeant Clare Kenward said- "Witney had cannabinoids in his system and was clearly driving extremely fast on a national highway limit road on a dark, wet night in December. He has shown little regard for the impact his driving and drug taking had on the others he had in his car and as a result two young men have lost their lives. This is a tragic and needless loss of life. Matthew and Marc were young men with their whole lives ahead of them and Witney's actions have taken them away from their families, who have been left devastated by their deaths. His sentence reflects the consequences his dangerous driving had, however Matthew and Marc's family will feel their loss for the rest of their lives."
Witney was also disqualified from driving for a period of seven years from his release date.

Nail bar owner found guilty of attempted murder
A man has been found guilty of trying to kill his wife and son by setting fire to their nail bar business in Hailsham last year.
Ducbac Vuong, 52, known as Sammi, was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder at Hollywood Nails in High Street, Hailsham, on March 4 last year. A jury at Lewes Crown Court heard that emergency services were called to the business at 5.17pm to reports of a fire and a man, woman and baby suffering severe burns. The fire had damaged the nail bar itself, the staff area and the upstairs flat.
On Monday 18 January he was found guilty of two charges of attempted murder.
It is believed that Vuong attempted to try and kill his wife, Tram, known as Naomi, who was 21, and their son, who was five months at the time, and seriously injure himself by starting the fire with acetone liquid. The liquid was poured and ignited by Vuong, blocking all the access points from the nail bar and upstairs accommodation, where the family lived. All three were badly injured with burns and were taken to hospital to be treated.
Vuong suffered 47 per cent burns to his legs, chest and hands and was hospitalised for four months and originally given only a 50 per cent chance of surviving. Naomi and the child also suffered severe burns and have undergone months of treatment.
Vuong has always denied the offences and claimed he had no idea how the fire started. However CCTV showed him shutting the door to the nail bar after his wife tried to raise the alarm and giving a thumbs up to passers-by who had tried to help.
Body worn video, captured by officers first on the scene which was shown to the jury, caught conversations between the 52-year-old and Naomi in their native Vietnamese. The 22-year-old is heard to say "You can kill me, how can you kill our little one?"
Vuong was remanded in custody for psychiatric reports and will be sentenced on 29 February.
Video of Vuong in the shop at the time of the fire can be viewed at https://youtu.be/MsSHccijhJo

Jailed - Selsey motorcyclist who filmed his own dangerous driving
A motorcyclist who filmed himself doing speeds of up to 155mph on roads in Sussex and Hampshire has been jailed.
Robert Hammond, 60, of Upways Close, Selsey, appeared at Chichester Crown Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to four counts of dangerous driving on 3 November at a earlier hearing. He was sentenced to six months to run consecutively for each offence and told that he will spend at least a year in prison.
The court heard that two police officers saw Hammond riding his Honda Fireblade motorbike on 29 April this year on the A27 at Chichester. He did a wheelie, undertook several vehicles and was travelling at about 80mph in a 50mph zone. They stopped him and seized a memory card from a camera which was mounted to his helmet. When the card was viewed, it showed more than 150 clips of him on his motorbike. Many of these clips recorded him riding in a manner that showed a blatant disregard for the safety of himself or other road users including him conducting a 'wheelie' in a housing estate just before accelerating to a recorded speed in excess of 110mph whilst still in a 30mph speed limit. He was shown entering a 30mph limit at 95mph, overtaking traffic on numerous

Robert Hammond
occasions against the safety of solid white line systems, travelling in excess of 120mph on country lanes, overtaking in excess of 140mph and reaching a recorded speed of 153mph on a dual carriageway.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and his motorbike was seized along with the camera on his helmet.
Sergeant Alan Spicer said- "The footage on his headcam showed evidence of some outrageously bad driving. It is a miracle that other road users had not been seriously injured or killed, due to the way he was driving his motorbike and the speeds he was reaching."
Hammond was also disqualified from driving for two years after he leaves prison and will be required to take an extended re-test before he can take to the roads again.

SELSEY LIFEBOAT
Time: 2.08am
Incident: Selsey Lifeboat gets early morning SOS
The volunteer crew at Selsey RNLI were paged at 2.08 a.m. by UK Coastguards. The 20-metre French stern trawler, 'Eridan', had reported total machinery failure in a position 8 miles south-east of the Lifeboat station.
The fishing vessel had four persons aboard, weighed 113 tons and had a 3m draught. They had been fishing when the machinery failure occurred and so 230 metres of net were still in the water, streaming out of the stern of the vessel. The weather on scene was wind SW force 5 in moderate to rough seas with spells of rain and fog patches.
The Selsey Lifeboat launched at 2.20am. arriving on scene at 2.58 a.m. The French skipper said that they would release the net, anchor it to the sea bed and buoy it for recovery later. When complete at 4.10 a.m. a tow was established between the Lifeboat and the trawler and began to tow the vessel to Portsmouth due to its size.
Due to tide, weather and the size of the vessel, progress was slow. During the tow it was established that another French trawler was on its way to take over the tow into Portsmouth. At 8am UK coastguard requested that 'Eridan' anchor in the position at that time, some 6 miles south-west of Selsey Bill, and the tow be released by Selsey Lifeboat. Bembridge Lifeboat also launched to stand by the trawler until the arrival of the other French vessel and escort them both into Portsmouth Harbour. - Full report
