Bones identified as those of missing Crawley man Jean Leveque
The two bones found by a fishing lake off Parish Lane, Pease Pottage, on Monday 26 January have now been confirmed as those of Jean Leveque, 42, of Hawth Close, Crawley, who was reported missing by his family in May last year.
The bones, which are an upper left hip bone and a lower left leg bone, have been identified as a result of analysis by a forensic archaeologist and by DNA comparison. Extensive police enquiries had been carried out to try to find Jean, including media appeals to which his sister contributed.
Police have searched the area last weekend after the bones were found but no further remains were found. The death is being treated as unexplained, and there is no evidence to suggest it is suspicious. The facts will be reported to the Coroner.

CCTV of an armed robbery at Flowerbowl Garage, Petworth
CCTV footage has captured the moment a masked robber held up a garage worker at knifepoint.
The images show how the man dressed in dark clothing walked into The Flower Bowl garage in London Road, Petworth, at about 7.45pm on 15 December and threatened the member of staff on duty with a knife and a long piece of wood. He gave the worker a pale blue rucksack and ordered him to put cash from the till inside it. He then ripped the garage's phone out of the socket and left.
Detective Constable Paul Gilmour said: "Although the man was wearing a balaclava that showed only a small part of his face, I am very hopeful that someone will recognise him from the CCTV. This was a terrifying incident for the victim but thankfully he was not hurt. We are determined to find the robber. A number of vehicles drove past the garage at about the time of the robbery so we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the man before of after the robbery. If you recognise the man and know who or where he is, please contact us urgently."

Incident: Burglaries at Army Cadet site in Bognor
The Army Cadet Hall at Chichester Road, Bognor, has been targeted by thieves for the second time in just over a month. Thieves broke in on 29 December and stole all the equipment and electrical goods to run the club. This has had an enormous impact on the staff and members..
It is believed that the same suspects returned to try to break in again, between Monday evening, 9 February, and Wednesday morning 11 February, but fortunately they were unable to get in on this occasion.
The burglary came soon after the cadets had achieved an outstanding award from the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex for raising £3000 for charity. Dave Merrett, Sergeant Instructor at the site, says it is not the staff that lose out from these thieves, but it directly affects the young Army Cadets who look forward to the activities that they do each week.
If anyone saw anyone acting suspiciously or have been offered equipment relating to the Army Cadets, please get in touch with Sussex Police by calling 101, quoting serial 528 of 11/2 or email sussex.pnn.police.uk

Van driver blocks ambulance
A Littlehampton man has written an apology after obstructing an ambulance on an emergency call in Brighton.
Around 10.30am the ambulance was on a emergency call to reports of a baby having a fit and trying to get through traffic on Buckingham Road. A Mercedes Sprinter van was double parked and blocking the way, stopping the ambulance from passing. The ambulance was sounding its sirens and then sounded its horn several times to the alert the van to its need to get through.
The driver refused to move and told the ambulance to go round another way. After trying to reason with the driver, he eventually slowly moved his van while swearing at the ambulance crew. He was identified by the registration details from the van and he was contacted.
The ambulance crew member asked for the issue to be dealt with by community resolution and the driver to donate £100 to the Trevor Mann Baby Unit.
The 37-year-old man admitted the offence and wrote a letter apologising for his behaviour.
Inspector Brian McCarthy said: "This man's behaviour was totally unacceptable and he has admitted it. It's very satisfying to be able to resolve this case in this way which suited everyone involved."

Further remains in forest believed those of missing Crawley man
A police-led search in Tilgate Forest, Pease Pottage, has found further human remains believed to be those of missing 42-year old Jean Leveque from Crawley.
The further search, carried out today found the remains, consisting of a skull, torso, arms and right leg, together with some scraps of clothing, at 2pm at a point deeper in the forest from where the first two bones, both from a left leg, were found last month.
Police were assisted by volunteers from Sussex Search and Rescue and Neighbourhood Watches.
Searches of the area have been continuing on a regular basis since the first two bones were found but no more are now planned as it is evident that the whole body has now been recovered. Although DNA analysis has still to take place to formally confirm the identity, and this may take some days, it is believed that they are from Jean, and his next of kin have been told of the further sad news.
Police were informed on Wednesday, 28 January, that the first two bones had been found near a pond in Parish Lane, Pease Pottage. A member of the public who was fishing found them on Monday, 26 January. The two bones were identified as Jean's as a result of analysis by a forensic archaeologist and by DNA comparison. The area around the lake was searched to see if there were any more bones but none were found at that stage.
The death continues to be treated as unexplained rather than suspicious, and the Coroner has been informed.
Extensive police enquiries had been carried out to try to find Jean, of Hawth Close, Crawley, including media appeals to which his sister contributed, after he was reported missing in May last year.

Tribute from family of teenager who died
The 17-year-old girl who died at a house in Ditchling on Friday last week, 20 February, has been formally identified as Annie Edwards from Southdown Avenue, Lewes.
A post mortem was held on Tuesday morning, 24 February, but did not establish the cause of death and further tests have been requested. An inquest date has yet to be set.
Her family have issued this tribute-
Annie Louise Edwards was three months short of her 18th birthday, 20 May. She grew up in Lewes and attended Southover primary school and Priory secondary school. She was in her second year at Varndean college and predicted to get three A grade at A-levels. She recently received an unconditional offer from Birmingham University to study English Language and Classical Literature.
She loved music and would have taken her grade 8 exam for the flute this year, in addition to which she loved music festivals and gigs, and had an extensive and eclectic taste in recorded music. She had recently had new CD reviews published in the Lewes Musical Express.
Our wonderful, happy, loving, warm-hearted, clever, mad, beautiful daughter Annie passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday morning. She was at a party with close and loving friends, having a wonderful time, and at the end it seems she laid down, went to sleep, and never woke up. We have always found it difficult to believe that someone so perfect should choose to spend their life with us. It is now impossible to believe we will never see her again.

RNLI Lifeboat PORTSMOUTH & HAYLING LIFEBOATS
Time: 2.15pm
Weather: Quite rough with a F5 WSW wind.
Incident: Fishing boat is swamped by waves
The commercial fishing boat 'Horizon' had finished fishing and was running downwind at the W end of Hayling Bay. Based in Portsmouth the skipper turned into the wind and waves to make for his home port. A big rogue wave caught the vessel and broke over the bow filling a large holding tank situated on the forward deck. This caused the boat to be bow down and so more waves started to break over the deck causing the skipper to turn back so she went downwind and with the waves.
The boat was still bow heavy however and waves came in over the starboard side where there was little freeboard and water began to get below into the hull.
A MAYDAY call was made for assistance and both Portsmouth and Hayling Inshore Lifeboats were launched, and the S&R Helicopter was paged.
The lifeboats reached the casualty at the same time and both put crewmembers on board with salvage pumps. Once the pumps were running the boat became more manageable and was able to proceed into Chichester Harbour escorted by the lifeboats.
The helicopter, now not needed returned to base. 'Horizon' was taken into Sparkes Marina where the pumping out was completed and the lifeboats returned to their stations.

Man found guilty of defrauding charity
Report received- 27 February 2015
A man has been sentenced after de-frauding the charity where he worked.
Victor Scuse, 76, of Wigmore Road, Worthing was treasurer for the Royal Air Force Association in Worthing for 8 years and had control of the financial decision making for the club from 2008.
In 2011 he was challenged by the committee at the charity over losses over the last 3 to 4 years but Scuse handed in his resignation. Police started investigating and discovered Scuse had been charging the RAFA club for goods and services which they never received at extortionate prices, including, an automatic hand dryer - £528.75, 20 litres of weed-killer £451.20 [they do not have a garden], repairs to existing satellite dish - £112.80, repairs to chiller refrigeration unit - £675.63, glass dishwasher maintenance contract - £564.00 and handtowels - £1508.82
During the period 2008 to 2010 the RAFA club received invoices from Forefront Sales, the company Scuse owned, for a total of £26,120.
He was arrested in 2012 and charged with fraud by abuse of position between December 2007 and April 2011.
He pleaded guilty today at Chichester Crown Court and was sentenced immediately to 12 months, suspended for two years and ordered to pay RAFA £2,400 compensation.
Detective constable Beccy Hopkins said: "The RAF Association is a charity which provides vital support to ex-servicemen and women and relies upon the generosity and integrity of its members. The RAF Association trusted Victor Scuse to carry out his duties as treasurer to the benefit of the charity. Scuse abused his position and the trust that had been placed in him. It is to the credit of the current committee who have worked tirelessly to keep the Club going during this difficult time."

Woman given two year ASBO
A Worthing woman who is said to have led a reign of terror against residents and businesses in the town has been given a two-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order [ASBO].
The order was granted against Alexandra Capone, 40, of Marine Parade, at Brighton Magistrates' Court to run until 23 February 2017.
The court heard that Capone had led a campaign of anti-social behaviour against her neighbours by having late night drunken arguments and shouting and swearing at them.
She had also caused alcohol fuelled anti social behaviour in Worthing town centre. Over the past year she had increasingly been associating with the street community, abusing members of the public and harrassing shopkeepers and businesses. She had also been a nuisance to the emergency services, where she had been identified as one of the highest repeat demand callers to Sussex police.
During the early part of 2013 police held a public meeting after concerns from residents. As a result more than 25 residents and members of the public attended and the majority of these people provided statements supporting Worthing Borough Council and Sussex Police's application for an ASBO.
PC Marv Lucas said- "Alexandra Capone has led a reign of terror against residents, businesses and the wide community over the last two years. Obtaining the two year ASBO against her is an excellent
piece of work which demonstrates good partnership working between Worthing council and the police.
The ASBO bans Capone from causing a nuisance, alarm or distress to the public, using or threatening violence towards the public, being in possession of alcohol in a public place except on a licensed premises, being drunk in a public place, entering Rowlands Road, Montague Street, Western Place and Western Row, Worthing, being with others where alcohol is being consumed in a public place except on licensed premises, making a noise within her home in Marine Parade that is loud enough to be heard outside, making a noise which can be heard outside Heene Court Mansions, Heene Terrace, allowing more than two visitors to enter the home between 10pm and 8am and allowing more than two visitors to enter Heene Court Mansions, Heene Terrace, between 10pm and 8am.

Bogus charity collectors
Police are warning shops and businesses about a scam by bogus charity collectors, following incidents in Crowborough, Hailsham and Bexhill today where mobile phones and debit cards were stolen. In each case police believe the same two men were involved.
They visited a shop in the High Street, Crowborough at around midday. One of the men showed staff and customers a leaflet claiming to be about a disabled children's charity, while the other wandered around. After they had left it was discovered that a mobile phone had been stolen.

Around an hour later, a shop in Vicarage Field, Hailsham, received a visit from two men. They came into the shop and said they were collecting for charity, distracting a staff member with their clipboards. After they had left, a mobile phone and debit cards were found to be missing. These two men are described as tanned, and one of them has a beard.
Then at 3pm two men holding clipboards entered a shop in Sackville Road, Bexhill claiming to be raising funds for an unnamed children's deaf school. The men were acting suspiciously and made out they couldn't talk. They were able to distract the victim and steal an iphone 6 mobile phone.
The men were described as Middle Eastern, aged 20 - 30, of medium build and height. They were both wearing blue jeans, one with a black jacket and the other a blue hat.
The two men then went to a number of shops in Cooden Sea Road, Bexhill and again were asking shop workers to support the charity and sign a petition. There were no thefts at these premises. Police are extremely keen to locate and speak to these two men and would also advise people to keep their valuables locked or hidden away and never left in an easily visible and accessible place such as the top of a desk or counter.
Anyone who saw the men on Wednesday is asked to contact police via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serials 561 or 670 of 25/2 for Crowborough or Hailsham, and serial 969 of 25/2 for the Bexhill incident.

New crackdown on drug-drivers in Sussex and Surrey
Report added- 26 February 2015 15:40
Motorists who get behind the wheel after taking drugs are to be targeted in a new road safety crackdown across Surrey and Sussex.
Legislation that comes into force on 2 March sets legal limits for how much of a substance - both illegal drugs and prescription medication - motorists can have in their system while driving.
A new device has also been approved that will allow officers at the roadside to test if a motorist has taken cannabis or cocaine. The DrugWipe system allows officers to determine in minutes whether motorists have the illegal substances in their body, using a swab from inside a driver's cheek. Officers no longer need to prove that a motorist is fit to drive - just that the motorist has an illegal level of drugs in their system while driving.
Any drivers who fail the tests will be arrested and taken to a police station where they will be asked to consent to a sample of their blood being taken. That blood will then be sent away to be examined and if illegal levels of a drug are found, the motorist faces being prosecuted for drug-driving. If the driver refuses to give consent, they face being prosecuted for the offence of failing to provide a sample of blood for analysis. The change in the law is designed to make it quicker and easier for drug-drivers to be prosecuted - meaning more of the dangerous motorists can be removed from the streets.
Drugs covered by the new rules include cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin and ketamine. Medicinal drugs covered include diazepam, methadone and morphine. The limits for these drugs have been set after advice from a panel of medical experts, at the level where the substances begin to affect driving.
National statistics suggest one in six drivers who die in crashes in the UK have traces of illegal drugs in their systems - with many of them having taken both drink and drugs.
These changes to the law will give the police the enforcement tools they need to protect road users from dangerous drivers and pursue those who have committed serious crimes. Crucially, this will improve the safety of everyone by taking drug drivers off our roads.
