Series of burglaries on the Manhood peninsula
Police are asking for witnesses after five homes on the Manhood peninsula were targeted by burglars in a week.
Between 25 November and 1 December, homes in Oakfield Avenue, East Wittering, Avebury Close, Bracklesham Bay and Howard Avenue, Ella Close and Chaucer Drive, West Wittering, were either entered by thieves or had doors and windows smashed by people trying to get inside. Among the items taken are a TV and cash and officers are keen to speak to anyone who might have seen people acting suspiciously in the area.
The first burglary happened in Oakfield Avenue on 25 November. The latest in the series was in Chaucer Drive on 1 December.

Shops and pubs in the Arun and Chichester districts have been caught selling alcohol to children.

The premises that failed were Sibel's Mini Market in Hawthorn Road, Bognor Regis, One-Stop in The Parade, Durston Drive, Bognor Regis, The Southdowns in Felpham Way, Bognor Regis, and West's bar in West Street, Chichester.

Two sentenced for Chichester robbery
Two rough sleepers have each been sentenced to 40 months imprisonment for a Chichester robbery.
Jamie Bryanton, 27, and Wayne Wennington, 43, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery at Chichester Crown Court and were sentenced today.
The court heard that in the early hours of 22 November the victim, a 39-year-old homeless man, went to the underground car park in Chapel Street where the two men were sleeping rough. He asked to join them and an argument escalated with the victim being assaulted and his mobile phone stolen.
DC David Midgley said- "The victim suffered some nasty injuries - cuts, bruising and he lost a tooth - but thanks to his quick actions in reporting this, officers were able to make arrests and search and find the stolen phone. The sentence reflects the tough stance the justice system takes towards such acts of violence"

Jailed for running down and killing cyclist
A man who knocked down and killed a cyclist in Horsham has been jailed after admitting he had never had a driving licence.
Zisi Lushi [pictured] struck cyclist Michael Dixon in Kerves Lane, Horsham, after taking his brother's silver Citroen C2 despite having no licence or insurance.
65-year-old Mr Dixon, of Trundle Mead, Horsham, died at the scene.
He was cycling south in Kerves Lane shortly before 11am on 8 December when Lushi, who was heading north, lost control of the Citroen and swerved across the carriageway, hitting Mr Dixon and crashing the car into a hedge.
Lushi, from Albania, was carrying fake ID that claimed his name was Luigi Dannile. The 27-year-old had bought the ID after entering the country illegally on the back of a lorry.
At Hove Crown Court, on Friday 29 May 2015, he pleaded guilty to causing death while driving without a licence and without insurance. He was found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving but was convicted of causing death by careless driving.
When Lushi, of Broadwater Lane, Copsale, near Horsham, appeared at the same court this morning, 1st June 2015, he was jailed for 14 months and told he would be deported to Albania afterwards.
After the sentencing Mr Dixon's family released a statement.

They said: "There are no winners in this case and Mr Lushi will have to live with the knowledge that his actions on the morning of 8 December 2014 ultimately took away the innocent life of a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many.
As a family we would like to thank the police for all their ongoing support and assistance since the incident happened. We will now have to come to terms with our loss and the sentence given, before moving forward in the knowledge that Dad's life, achievements and exceptional spirit will live strong in our memories forever."

Incident: Man slaps child in supermarket
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man slapped a child across the face in a supermarket in Crawley.
The six-year-old boy was in a shopping trolley at Morrisons in High Street at 10.45am with his mother when she momentarily turned away from her son. While her back was turned a man approached the boy and slapped him across the face. The man then left the supermarket. He was white, between 20 and 25, stocky and about 6ft. He had a round, spotty face with some stubble and was wearing a green hooded jacket with fluff around the hood and with a woman who was white, thin and 6ft. She had long dark hair and was wearing white trousers.

CCTV of an armed robbery at Flowerbowl Garage, Petworth
CCTV footage has captured the moment a masked robber held up a garage worker at knifepoint.
The images show how the man dressed in dark clothing walked into The Flower Bowl garage in London Road, Petworth, at about 7.45pm on 15 December and threatened the member of staff on duty with a knife and a long piece of wood. He gave the worker a pale blue rucksack and ordered him to put cash from the till inside it. He then ripped the garage's phone out of the socket and left.
Detective Constable Paul Gilmour said: "Although the man was wearing a balaclava that showed only a small part of his face, I am very hopeful that someone will recognise him from the CCTV. This was a terrifying incident for the victim but thankfully he was not hurt. We are determined to find the robber. A number of vehicles drove past the garage at about the time of the robbery so we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the man before of after the robbery. If you recognise the man and know who or where he is, please contact us urgently."

Sergeant Clare Kenward said- "Witney had cannabinoids in his system and was clearly driving extremely fast on a national highway limit road on a dark, wet night in December. He has shown little regard for the impact his driving and drug taking had on the others he had in his car and as a result two young men have lost their lives. This is a tragic and needless loss of life. Matthew and Marc were young men with their whole lives ahead of them and Witney's actions have taken them away from their families, who have been left devastated by their deaths. His sentence reflects the consequences his dangerous driving had, however Matthew and Marc's family will feel their loss for the rest of their lives."
Witney was also disqualified from driving for a period of seven years from his release date.

Couple who died in Billingshurst tragedy are named
Police are continuing to investigate the deaths of a man and a woman at a house in Groomsland Drive, Billingshurst. Their bodies were discovered on Christmas Day.
A post mortem examination has confirmed that the man, Jan Tshabalala, 33, died from hanging. The cause of death of his wife, Julia, 30, is still being investigated. The couple's two children, aged 4 and 6, who were not believed to have been at home at the time of the incident, are currently being cared for by relatives.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rymarz, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a tragic case and our thoughts are very much with the family at this time. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths but would welcome information from anyone who may have had contact with either person in the days before their deaths which may help to shed light on this case."

UPDATE 17 June 2015
SUSSEX POLICE report - Ref: PR49355 / 2015
Report received: 17 June 2015
Billingshurst Christmas Day deaths being treated as murder-suicide
The deaths of a Billingshurst couple, Jan and Julia Tshabalala, on Christmas Day 2014 are now officially being treated as a murder-suicide enquiry by police.
Extensive forensic and toxicological tests have just been completed and show this to be the most likely outcome. The exact circumstances still remain to be decided at an inquest into the Tshabalalas' deaths.
Their bodies were found at their home in Groomsland Drive, Billingshurst, on the morning of 25 December last year. Evidence will now be presented to the West Sussex coroner for an inquest to be held.
Senior investigating officer in the case is Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rymarz, of the Sussex and Surrey major crime team.
He said: "People may be wondering why it has taken so long to determine the causes of the couple's deaths. But this has not been a straightforward case and consideration has had to be given to a number of forensic factors. We have had to await the outcome of tests that have taken time to complete. Members of the Tshabalalas' family are fully aware of this and understand the reasons."
He added: "I have been grateful to them for their dignity and patience while this investigation has proceeded."

Julia Tshabalala
Julia Tshabalala
A Home Office pathologist has given the cause of death in 30-year-old Mrs Tshabalala's case as being consistent with pressure on the neck. Her husband Jan, 33, was found to have subsequently died from hanging. The date of an inquest into the two deaths has yet to be fixed.
