Chichester man critically ill after drug-taking
An 18-year-old man is critically ill in hospital after he was found delirious in the street in Wick on Saturday, 4 October.
The man, from Chichester, but staying in Wick, was taken home where relatives became concerned by his condition and he was taken into Worthing Hospital later that day. Tests have shown that there is evidence of use of Class B drugs, but it has not been established that this is definitely a contributory factor to his illness. He remains in a medically-induced coma in a critical condition. Police were alerted today and have launched an enquiry to trace his movements and who he may have associated with in the time leading up to when he was found.
Detective Sergeant Colin O'Hare said: "We believe that this young man may have taken amphetamine and possibly the drug GBL - worryingly and euphemistically known as 'coma in a bottle'.
You can find out more about the substances at www.talktofrank.com.

In the first, at 6.24am, a car travelling north left the road opposite Shiremark Farm and overturned into a ditch. The driver and passenger escaped unhurt.
In the second incident, at 7.09am, a car driven by a 29-year-old woman crashed into a garden at Myrtle Cottages. A three-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car suffered a serious leg injury.
The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance attended and the injured girl was flown to St George's Hospital, Tooting, London. Officers are investigating the cause of both collisions. One possibility is that they may be linked to a diesel oil spillage in the area.

MISSING - Marion Price
Police have launched a search for a missing woman in Heathfield.
Marion Price, 67, was last seen at 3.30pm when she left her home in High Street, possibly to go shopping, but she did not tell anyone she was going. She suffered a stroke quite recently and this has left her disorientated and confused at times.
Sergeant Simon Kind, who is leading the search for her, said: "With the rain that has set in this evening and falling temperatures we are obviously very concerned for Marion's welfare and safety. She is very distinctive as a medical condition has left her very stooped and she walks bent over, not really looking up as she does. She is 5' tall, of slim build with dark brown hair and she is wearing a black cardigan and black tights. Although she is thought to have had some money on her, it is unlikely that she would have used public transport, but she is able to walk considerable distances. She has gone missing before and has been found as far afield as Horam and Burwash Common.
I would appeal to everyone in the Heathfield area and surrounding villages to take a look around in the area of their homes or businesses to see if she might have taken shelter as the rain started. She may be in an alleyway or perhaps a garden building or similar. We have officers searching for her in and around Heathfield, but unfortunately the weather conditions mean that a helicopter search isn't possible at this time."
If you have seen her or know of her whereabouts, please call 101 quoting serial 1172 of 12/10.
If you spot her, please dial 999 immediately.

Search for missing Heathfield woman continues
A search has continued throughout the night for missing Heathfield woman Marion Price and police officers are now being joined by search volunteers.
67-year-old Marion, who has been left disoriented and confused at times by a recent stroke, has not been seen since 3.30pm on Sunday 12 October when she left her home in High Street, Heathfield. An appeal for information led to a number of reports of sightings, but the search has so far drawn a blank and there is now extreme concern for her safety and welfare.
Inspector Rob Lovell said: "It has been an absolutely foul night and we are very worried about Marion. We know from when she has gone missing before that she is capable of walking quite a considerable distance and she has been found as far afield as Horam and Burwash Common. We are hoping that the weather will soon lift enough for a helicopter to join our search, which is now being supported by search volunteers. However, there's every chance that she could be spotted by anyone in a large area centred on Heathfield and spreading out into the surrounding countryside and villages."
If you spot her, please dial 999 immediately.

RNLI Hayling Lifeboat Lifeboat HAYLING LIFEBOAT
Time: 18:58
Incident: Novice skipper caught out in the dark
The Coastguard requested the Lifeboat to go to assist a 21 foot open dayboat with engine trouble, some 2 miles west of the Chichester Bar Beacon. The skipper had just purchased the boat but he didn't have much boating experience. He nevertheless set out to travel to Southsea Marina in challenging weather. Off Hayling the engine cut out and he found it had run out of fuel. Fortunately he had both GPS and a VHF radio so he called the coastguards and due to the increasing wind and tide was told to anchor. The lifeboat was launched but he was drifting rapidly. The lifeboat was however able to locate the casualty and put a crew member on board. A tow was established to take the casualty out of the danger of rolling over in choppy sea or drifting into the Shipping Channel with the possibility of being run down.

Three members of same family convicted of assault near Billingshurst
Three people have been found guilty of assault after a fight near Billingshurst in 2012.
Gary Stevens Senior, 46, and Kim Stevens, 47, both of Plaistow Road, Dunsfold were found guilty of GBH with intent and ABH, Gary Stevens Junior, their son, 19, also of the same address was found guilty of GBH and ABH. The jury, today, found them guilty after a two and a half week trial at Hove Crown Court.
On 27 May 2012, the two victims a 26-year-old man and a 52-year-old man, were attacked in their driveway at their home on Loxwood Road in Alford Bars. At 10pm the Stevens arrived at the address and the victims suffered a sustained attack by being repeatedly punched and assaulted with a baseball bat, an axe handle and a wheelbarrow.
There was an incident between two members of the families involved, who are all known to each other, in Cranleigh earlier that evening. This resulted in what happened on the driveway of the property in Alfold Bars in which the two victims sustained their injuries. The victims received multiple fractures to their faces and injuries to their arms as they tried to defend themselves. Both victims were hospitalised, the victim of the GBH for four days and he sustained lasting damage to his eye-socket as a result. Five people were arrested in July 2012 and they stood trial in June 2013. When the trial collapsed, a retrial took place this month at Hove Crown Court. The family, parents and son, were found guilty. Sam Smith and Tony Smith were both acquitted on both counts of ABH and GBH.
The Stevens are due to be sentenced on 13 November.

Police issue warning over legal highs
Emergency services were called to a shop in in Chichester at around 4pm where a man was acting strangely and saying he felt unwell.
He then began damaging the shop, Eddie's Convenience Store in Millfield Close, before running away and climbing a tree in Baxendale Road. Thankfully the man, a 26-year-old, didn't do himself any serious damage, however it is believed he had taken so-called legal highs. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and was later bailed until 7 November while investigations continue.
Another man was also taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester suffering the effects from what is thought to be a legal high drug. He has since been released.
Police are warning about legal highs after two men were also taken to hospital in Bognor Regis today. Police were called around 2.15pm to reports of two men taken ill at a property in Stocker Road. The men, both 19, were taken to hospital.
Detective Inspector Dave Grover said: "We believe all of these men may have taken some type of legal high which made them all very unwell. We urge people to take caution as legal highs often have great health risks. Just because a substance is legal to possess, it doesn't mean it's safe. In addition, other damaging health issues have been experienced including paranoid states, psychosis, hallucinations, comas and seizures."
Police advise that there is a range of people to talk to and there are services available that offer support. They are there to listen to concerns, whether they be from the enquirer or someone they know. These include the NHS website www.nhs.uk and www.talktofrank.com

Valerie Graves Murder breakthrough
Detectives investigating the murder of Valerie Graves in Bosham believe they have made a breakthrough in the case.
Forensic scientists have obtained a limited DNA profile for the suspect, which means detectives can start requesting voluntary DNA samples to eliminate males from the investigation who live and work in the Bosham area, either permanently or as migrant workers. Officers will also be speaking to visitors in the area to eliminate them from the investigation. Detective Superintendent Nick May, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said- "This is a significant breakthrough for the investigation. Although this profile is not suitable for a search on the National DNA Database it does indicate the suspect is male. Anyone who provides us with a DNA sample could now be eliminated from the investigation. The profiling will involve taking a swab from the mouth and fingerprints from each individual.
We are stressing that if anyone has any concerns or suspect they may know something, they can talk to our officers or Crimestoppers anonymously. We can rule out people whose names are suggested as being responsible for the murder by comparing their DNA with the sample. It is important for the public to understand that we will only use the samples obtained to check against this particular crime and their DNA profile will not appear on any database. Legal safeguards are in place to ensure we do not use them for any other purpose".
Valerie was found dead with serious head and facial injuries at a house in Smugglers Lane, Bosham, on Monday December 30, 2013. The 55-year-old had been staying at the property while the owners were away over the Christmas period.
A significant investigation into the murder is continuing 10 months after Valerie was found dead.
A reward of up to £20,000 is now being offered jointly by Sussex Police and Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Valerie's killer.
