The crew searched over a wide area for over 3 hours on Monday night, and the Coastguard Helicopter was also called out. The crews re-assembled on Tuesday morning at first light and continued the search which by now had covered the shore from Hayling to Selsey and within Chichester Harbour from East Head up the Itchenor Reach, but sadly no-one was found.
Tragically a body was discovered on Wednesday 4 September, by a kayaker. The body was on the sandbanks at the West end of the W Wittering beach and the Hayling D-Class Lifeboat was launched to assist and to bring the casualty ashore where he was handed over to the Hampshire Police.

WEDNESDAY 4 SEPTEMBER 2013

POLICE report - Ref: PR43343 / 2013
Time: 9.55am
Location: Rectory Lane, Ashington
Incident: Officers rescue man from under car
Police officers who were first on the scene where a man had become trapped under a car, jacked up the vehicle to release him. The man, in his 40s, was taken to Worthing Hospital for a precautionary check-up after being trapped under the old American car that he was working on in Ashington. It is believed that the car, weighing nearly 2 tons, rolled off a jack in Rectory Lane around 9.55am, trapping the man and constricting his breathing. He was able to use his mobile phone to call for help and officers from a road policing unit and neighbourhood policing response team were quickly on scene to release him. Road policing officer PC Peter De Silvo was one of the first on the scene. He said: "One of my colleagues had hopped over a gate and found the man as I arrived. He was completely covered by the vehicle and the weight of it meant that he was struggling to breathe, but he was still able to talk to us and tell us where the jack was. We replaced it and jacked the car back up, but it was still sinking on the jack so we pulled him out and kept him calm until an ambulance arrived. He's a really lucky man. If he hadn't been able to get at his mobile phone, he could have laid there unnoticed for ages as there was no part of him that was showing from underneath the car. We were just glad that he was talking to us and it looks as though his injuries aren't too serious."

Appeal by Essex Police for wanted Francis O'Donoghue
A gunman wanted for the attempted murder of two of his neighbours on the London border has become Essex Police's most wanted man. Francis O'Donoghue, 27, is wanted following a shooting on a travellers' site off Goatswood Lane in Navestock, Essex at 3.30pm on Tuesday August 27.
Two men in their 20s from the Brentwood area sustained gunshot wounds to the legs and chest and underwent surgery. They are now recovering after being discharged from hospital.
It is thought that Francis O'Donoghue could now be anywhere in the country. People should avoid any physical contact with him as he may be in possession of a handgun - anyone coming into contact with him is urged to call police immediately. However, there is nothing to suggest that people in the wider community are at risk of
being injured. He is described as white, approximately 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build, has short-brown hair, has protruding ears and speaks with an Irish accent.
Anyone with information in connection with this shooting is urged to contact Essex Police on 101, email on SCDappeals@essex.pnn.police.uk
or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is urged to call 999 immediately.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a gang of thieves tried to cut their way into a cash machine inside a bank.
At about 4am a group of people were spotted on the roof of the Santander branch in Ash Lane, Rustington. A hole had been created in the roof and a number of people had entered the bank with an angle grinder and attempted to cut open a cash machine inside the branch. The alarm was set off and security smoke was released inside the building. When members of the public disturbed the intruders by shouting at them the group fled from the bank empty handed and got into two cars waiting nearby. The cars drove off westbound along The Street. One of the vehicles was a white hatchback and the other was a dark hatchback. The thieves were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas. Those who went inside the bank would have needed to be small to fit through the hole.

Jasmine Elkasmi, 16, of Carlton Avenue, Bognor, was a passenger in the car which left the road and overturned. Two other 16-year-old girl passengers were seriously injured.

She was so caring and considerate of others, always making them laugh with her wonderful sense of humour. There was never a situation in which she could not find the funny side and even though she has left us far too early, she will carry on living within our hearts and memories. Tangmere teenager jailed for causing death by dangerous driving
A teenager has been jailed for four years after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Harry Smith, aged 18, of Haleybridge Walk, Tangmere, appeared at Chichester Crown Court for sentencing after he last month admitted causing death by dangerous driving and two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in a fatal collision on the A285 at Halnaker in September 2013. Judge Christopher Parker QC also disqualified Smith from driving for four years and ordered him to take an extended re-test before holding a licence again.
The court heard that Smith was driving a Vauxhall Corsa car travelling south, when it came off the road and overturned. Passenger Jasmine Elkasmi, 16, of Carlton Avenue, Bognor, died of her injuries. Two other 16-year-old girl passengers who were in the car were seriously injured, one being left paralysed from the waist down and other suffering facial and dental injuries. Neither can be named for legal reasons.
Afrer the hearing, Sergeant Paul Wood, of the Arundel road policing unit, said: "Smith was 17 at the time of the collision and he had only held his driving licence for about seven weeks. He had been stopped by police before the collision on a number of occasions due to the manner of his driving and he had been issued with a section 59 warning, which meant that if he had been stopped again, his vehicle would have been seized. A girl died as a result of his dangerous driving and two other girls were left with serious injuries, one of them life-changing."

POLICE report - ISSUED ON BEHALF OF BEDFORDSHIRE POLICE
Missing Mark may be in Sussex
Police are concerned for the welfare of a man who has not been seen or heard from for the last month.
Mark Whittingstall, 51, currently lives in Darwin Street, Blackburn, but has lived in Bedford most of his life and was last seen in Bedford town centre by a family friend at the end of August.
He seems to have left Blackburn around August 21 and police enquiries so far have located him in Bedford on August 22, Gatwick airport on August 23, Brighton on August 25 and back in Bedford around August 28. When last seen Mark, normally lively and tidily-dressed, seemed depressed and looked ill and dishevelled. Since then, he has not been seen. He is a keen train, plane and bus spotter and travels for the purposes of his hobby - but always says where he is going and keeps in touch. His brother is particularly worried about him as it is absolutely out of character for him to disappear and he has no known access to money.
Mark is white, 6ft tall, with grey hair and was wearing black trousers, black parka coat and carrying a small rucksack. He sometimes has problems with his knee and could be using crutches. He has never gone missing before and has no money in his bank account and his phone is turned off.
If anyone has seen Mark, or he sees this, or can help with information about Mark,
Mark Whittingstall
