Incident: Travellers moved on to allow for festival in Chichester
Police, working with the local authority, have this evening acted to remove travellers from playing fields at Oaklands Park, Chichester. They have used their powers under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to remove the travellers to prevent disruption to the planned Get Active festival taking place on the site tomorrow. Sgt Alan Fenn said: "The travellers had moved on to the site this morning after being evicted from parish council land in Fishbourne. After speaking to them this afternoon, they agreed to move on again and this was reinforced by the use of the Section 61 power to ensure the festival could be held on the playing fields tomorrow. Two people have been arrested after a warrant was carried out at a Selsey address today. At 9.05am a search was carried out at a property in High Street and cannabis and associated items were seized. A 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, who are both local to the area, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs. They remain in custody this afternoon. Time: 11.30pm
Location: Brighton and Hove
Incident: Police seek Good Samaritan after attempted robbery
Police in Brighton investigating an attempted robbery are also seeking a Good Samaritan who came to the aid of the victim. At about 11.30pm the 25-year old local woman was walking north along Lewes Road aside of The Level, alongside the cycle path, on her way home from work, when a man approached her from behind and tried to snatch her shoulder bag. He pushed her to the ground and she called out for help, attracting the attention of passers by. The man ran off empty-handed, towards Elm Grove.
The suspect is described as white, in his early to mid twenties, about 5'6", with a pale complexion, and of average build, clean shaven and with a northern accent. He was wearing a navy blue hooded top with a white trim, with the hood up, navy blue tracksuit bottoms, described as being a crispy cotton material, and white trainers. He had a sport shop-type carrier bag across his body, with a rope draw string. The victim received grazes and bruising and was treated by paramedics.
Detective Sergeant Julie Greenwood said: "The victim was badly shaken but thankfully was not seriously hurt. We are seeking to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything of what happened, and in particular we would like to speak to a man who gave his name as John, who came to the womans aid and walked her home to a nearby address. We have no other description for him, but if you were that man, or if you can help in any other way, please call us via 101 quoting serial 2036 of 15/9. Incident: Missing Essex man Stephen Jones sought in Sussex
Police investigating the disappearance of a man in Essex are turning their attention to a series of ATM transactions in Sussex in a bid to ascertain what has happened to him.
Several personal possessions belonging to Stephen Jones were recovered from the beach off Western Esplanade in Southend at lunchtime on Friday, 30 August . The 52-year-old led a nomadic life, visiting various hostels around the south-east of England, and was last known to be living in south London. A multi-agency missing person investigation was launched by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Essex Police. Enquiries have revealed that the man's cash card has been used at post office ATMs in Brighton on three separate days earlier this month (September). An Essex Police spokesman said: "At this stage, we're not sure whether Stephen entered the sea or whether he has left Essex to continue with his life. We're asking anyone who may have seen him to contact us so that we can provide his family with some substantial update." Anyone with information on Stephen Jones's whereabouts should contact Essex Police on 101.

Incident: Officer cut free from Police car crash
Emergency services, including West Sussex Fire and Rescue, were called to the incident after a Volkswagen Golf, driven by a 35-year-old man from Brighton, was in collision with the police BMW 530. The road was closed in both directions after the accident. Due to initial fears of a back injury, the officer, based at the Central Road Policing Unit at Haywards Heath, had to be cut free from the car and placed on a back board. He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where it was assessed that he had suffered only minor injuries and he was expected to be released soon afterwards.
